Lost In Austin

LOST IN AUSTIN
I'm lost in Austin
At the Chili Parlor Bar
Drinking Mad Dog margaritas
Looking for Guy Clark
There's salt on the rim
There's a lime at the bottom
They say the nachos'll kill ya
So I got 'em
I'm soaking up the scene
Just sittin' here
Watching a woman suck back
Lonestar beer
There's a fat man eating chili
With a tear in his eye
It takes more than a senorita
To make a Texican cry
Guess I'll pay my bill
Get up and go
Blow down south
To San Antonio
I'm lost in Austin
At the Chili Parlor Bar
Drinking Mad Dog Margaritas
Looking for Guy Clark

Hundred Miles To Houston

HUNDRED MILES TO HOUSTON
Hundred miles to Houston
The sun is sinking low
Purple sky in my rear view
Over San Antonio
Hundred miles to Houston
How I long to be home
In the arms of my sweetheart
Waiting all alone
Well, San Antonio was sad and lonely, though
Just like that Alamo, it's history. Now I'm..
Hundred miles to Houston
But Houston's not my home
I'm bound for Canada
Two thousand miles to go
I'm going back to the arms of my sweetheart
Two thousand miles to go...

Meet Me In Texas
02:27
|

MEET ME IN TEXAS
Meet me in Texas in the middle of May
I'll be in Houston counting the days
Until, my love, we're together again
And our lonely hearts can at last mend
Too gone too long is no way to be
It's hard for love to grow with an ocean between
You in your world, me in mine
We keep trying to make our love light shine
Maybe too much time has passed
Maybe I've been living too fast
Maybe I did not try enough
'Cause now I'm in Texas, blue as the sky above
Now I'm in Texas, blue as the sky above.

TALKIN' CRUMB GOBBLER BLUES
I was driving west on Texas 71
Burning up the Lexus in the Texas sun
An hour from Austin, the day near done
I saw a sign that said, "cold beer sold here"
I figured, what's a fella to do?
Thought I'd stop and have a brew
Found a table at Peter's BBQ
Across from handsome Molly and her mother so dear.
Handsome Molly got married last summer
There she sat, saying, "What a bummer"
Thirty years old and not gettin' any younger
She said, "If I wanna have a baby, now's the time to do it."
She was sitting there choppin' up a plumb cobbler
Talkin' 'bout popping out a crumb gobbler
Dreamin' of cleaning up toddler slobber
She said, "I've got a husband and I know how to use it."
Well, handsome Molly was quite the looker
She would've made a mighty fine hooker
If she wasn't tied down, I'd've took her
For a long joy ride in my Lexus.
It was then I remembered I was in the bible belt
That caused my smile to melt
For if Molly knew what was on my mind, well,
She'd probably call me a sexist swine
Hell, with thoughts like mine I just can't win
Every thought in my mind's a genuine sin
There's no use lying, I might as well begin
To walk the path of the heavenly father
Maybe then I'd get a woman like Molly
Twice as handsome and three times jolly
With a little luck me and pretty Polly
We'd have ourselves seven crumb gobblers
I was driving west on Texas 71
Burning up the Lexus in the Texas sun
An hour from Austin, the day near done
I saw a sign that said, "cold beer sold here".

SMILE WHILE THE SUN SHINES
Smile while the sun shines
Tomorrow may rain
Love while the heart sings
While it knows no pain
Life is a dream, a finite aside
Someday it will be a flash before our eyes. So,
Smile while the sun shines
Tomorrow may rain
Love while the heart sings
While it knows no pain
Seeking beauty, seeking truth
Finding wisdom in the innocence of youth
Smile while the sun shines
Tomorrow may rain
Love while the heart sings
While it knows no pain

OLD FRIEND
I will always remember the good times we've had
I dust off the memories whenever I feel bad
I always will cherish the good days gone by
With moments so sweet I almost could cry
Old friend, I want to thank you
Old friend, I want to thank you again
For helping to make my life what it's been
Old friend, I want to thank you again
The photos have faded, the edges have torn
The album sits proud like an old coat well worn
And yet I've seen through the passage of time
Each image remains crystal clear in my mind
Old friend, I want to thank you
Old friend, I want to thank you again
For helping to make my life what it's been
Old friend, I want to thank you again

Time Hurries On

TIME HURRIES ON
Day begins with the rustling of leaves in the wind
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, pass the bottle of gin
Wander down the overgrown gravel road
Take a trip down memory lane
All those years ago, sure looks different now, you know
But the feeling is almost the same
Night comes on strong and fills the sky with diamonds
It's a milky way buffet, reach right up and try one
It's all I can do to find a chair
I just sit and stare at a billion stars burning bright
My mind is blown so beautifully, so truthfully
I retire to the firelight

The Love Of A Mother
03:43
|

THE LOVE OF A MOTHER
The love of a mother is the strongest love of all
It stands firm as a mountain, will never crumble or fall
It weighs more than silver, more than lead, and more than steel
It's worth more than gold, and I swear it's twice as pure
The love of a mother brings the birth of a world
The joy and the pain that endlessly unfurls
And when the weight of the world starts taking its toll
She is there to care and to lighten the load
All I want to say to you, dear Mother
Is I love you.
A mountain might get lonely and an angel's tear might fall
The roses all wilt when Cinderella must miss the ball
The years keep on coming and the skin ain't quite as soft
Oh, dear Mother, life is such a cost
Oh Mother, if you believe in the Lord
Home ain't where you've been, it's where you're sure to go
When your soul is safe in Heaven high above
With amazing grace you will fly with the doves in peace
All I want to say to you, dear Mother
Is I love you.

Another Coconut Shake

ANOTHER COCONUT SHAKE
Got my toes in the sand, drink in my hand
The smell of a sweet cigar
'Neath the palm trees, shootin' the breeze
Old Joe behind the bar
Hey bartender, don't stop that blender
You know what to make
Yes indeed man, you know I need
Another coconut shake
Ocean wind, sunbaked skin
Tropical dream
Life's a nice pineapple slice
In sweet coconut cream
Hey bartender, don't stop that blender
You know what to make
Yes indeed man, you know I need
Another coconut shake
Clear blue sky, sun in my eyes
Got a blanket on the beach
Mid day snooze, glass of booze
Always within reach
There's a sleeping cat in my panama hat
My little purring pet
The sky's alive on the wide horizon
The sun begins to set
Hey bartender, don't stop that blender
You know what to make
Yes indeed man, you know I need
Another coconut shake

The Hobo Song

THE HOBO SONG
Oh how I'd love to be a hobo and live in a shack
A little run down shanty by an old railroad track
The rumble of a midnight train to rock me as I dream
Asleep by the light of a silvery moon beam
I'd forsake everything I own to travel this land
Harmonica in my pocket and a guitar in my hand
Oh how I'd love to be a hobo and bum on down the line
Spending what I ain't got on women and wine
Playing my hand in poker games, dealing stud
Passing out and waking up face down in the mud
I'd forsake everything I own to travel this land
Harmonica in my pocket and a guitar in my hand
Oh how I'd love to be a hobo and live by my own rules
I wouldn't answer to anyone or be nobody's fool
To feel the ground beneath my feet, knowing that I'm free
To walk the walk and talk the talk, sounds alright by me
I'd forsake everything I own to travel this land
Harmonica in my pocket and a guitar in my hand
Oh how I'd love to be a hobo, a real rambling man
Got no interest, ain't my business being a family man
I'd be drifting 'round and singing the hobo's lullaby
'Til the day I climb aboard that freight train in the sky
I'd forsake everything I own to travel this land
Harmonica in my pocket and a guitar in my hand

BOY WITH THE STARS IN HIS EYES
See the boy with the stars in his eyes
Overjoyed, gazing far into the sky
Nature's child
Dreaming of deep blue oceans
He's in love with that sweet breeze blowing
Spirit's wild
Smile child, your heart is full of light
The future's yours, it's oh so bright
Climb upon a rainbow, kiss the golden sun
Paradise the state of mind to keep the spirit young
Oh, what a joy it is to be young
Follow your heart, keep on dreaming
Always start with believing
Dreams come true
Facing the far, wide open skies
Don't let the stars fall from your eyes
Let them be a part of you
Smile child, your heart is full of light
The future's yours, it's oh so bright
Climb upon a rainbow, kiss the golden sun
Paradise the state of mind to keep the spirit young
Oh, what a joy it is to be young
